Are you one of those entrepreneurs who are so cooped up in their world that they are not aware of any other thing going on outside the business world? Please don’t be. You might say you travel; after all, last week you were in another state for a conference meeting. Two weeks ago, you were in a neighbouring country to finalise a business deal. Well, that’s not the kind of travel we are referring to. We are talking about travelling for yourself – for the fun of it.
When last did you give yourself a break? When last did you go somewhere else to have fun and explore the place? We can imagine you’re thinking so hard right now. If you’re not yet convinced, here are 5 reasons why you should travel for leisure.
You discover yourself. Do you know that starting a business is a way of discovering yourself? There are some skills you begin to exhibit that you never even knew you had in you. The same goes for travelling. It is a way to learn more about yourself. When you go to a foreign place, you pick their language, learn about the people, about their culture and heritage. Travelling opens up your mind, changes your perspective, pushes you out of your comfort zone and then you realise how the knowledge you have is limited. This makes you yearn for more knowledge.
It sets you free. We are not saying you were in bondage, but have you ever travelled to a very cool and serene place, and then when you get there, you spread your arms so wide and suck in the fresh air? In that moment, you tuck all your stress and worries in your pocket and just enjoy the moment. That is what travelling does; it rejuvenates you from within. You get to experience some sort of freedom and inner peace.
Makes you more creative. Doing the same thing, and being in the same place every day can kill your creativity. Being creative most of the time comes from exposure. Travelling exposes you to new aspects of life that will refresh your mind and inspire your work.
It is relaxing. Okay, don’t travel for any reason at all. Just relax. You have worked so hard and you deserve a break. It is not all the time you travel because you want to learn more or meet new people, just go because you need to unwind and de-stress.
