You Need To Run

May 2, 2018

Today I had an encounter that got me thinking and it opened me up to a new level of realization – WHY MOST FOLKS NEVER REALLY GO AFTER WHAT THEY WANT even though we keep talking about it so much.
And Oh!!! We can talk.

I was dressed and ready to go out and then I realised I had some time on my hands before my bus arrived so I sat down to record a video tutorial for my team. By the time I was done and put it on the hub, I had exactly 7 minutes to get to the bus station from my room. My room is on the 8th floor which means I needed to get down to my shoe cupboard on the 2nd floor, wear my shoes and get out of the building (in Japan, you don’t wear shoes indoors). I made the decision not to wear any shoe that needed lacing up which meant I was going to give up comfort shoes – shoes with very comfortable soles that support my knees.

Sadly, I jumped into the elevator and in my frenzy found myself on the 1st floor instead. For some odd reason, I bolted for the stairs to the 2nd floor instead of taking the elevator back. Got to my shoe cupboard, dumped my room flip flops in there with just enough time to unlock and lock it, grabbed my boots, threw my feet into it without zipping it up and then I RAN!!! I had 4 minutes to go, I had lost 3 minutes already.

Now remember – I have my shortcomings: The absence of comfortable shoes – A NO RUNNING policy because of my bad knees. So while one side of my brain kept pulling me and saying – “You have a bad knee, you will be in so much pain afterwards, you are not wearing comfortable shoes, are you sure you know how to run, you probably look like a chicken running”. The other side of my brain was saying SHUT UP. I CAN’T, I JUST CAN’T MISS THAT BUS.
I ran even more like my life depended on it because for the next 2 hours – my life really depended on it.

Now here is the thing, there was an option of waiting for another bus for 19 minutes but it was
FRAME I WAS AIMING FOR. I ran for 1 minute and walked and ran again. I made it in 3 minutes and not the regular 7 minutes. Got to school in good time to sit through my lecture.

The truth is, life will always present you with obstacles, you will always have limitations, conditions will not always be perfect – but every single day you have the power of freewill AKA, choice to stroll towards your dreams, to bend to your obstacles or to RUN towards your dreams because for the rest of our lives that is all that truly matters.

Even if there are options, YOU MUST BE SO CLEAR ON WHAT YOU WANT, HOW YOU WANT IT and WHEN YOU WANT IT – so you truly don’t care about other options. You RUN. You focus on the one thing. For when you realise that your entire life and breath depends on your properly envisioned outcome, you will get rid of your excuses and limitations and RUN. Someone out there needs you to RUN so you can get to them in good time, enough time to
pass the baton so they too can RUN.

Why are you still walking – RUN!!
You will never have all the energy.
You will not always have comfortable shoes.
Your knees may fail you – JUST RUN.
You will definitely be out of breath quicker than you can lift a leg but don’t stop RUNNING.
Philippians 3:13-14 New Living Translation (NLT) 13.

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting
the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and
receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
