How To Turn Small Conversations Into Networking Opportunities

Networking is one of the most important aspects of business. We cannot overlook the effectiveness of good networking and that is why most business experts always emphasize that the people you move and partner with have a big role to play in ensuring your business growth.

Now, how do you think networking happens? Do you just go to people and say you want to network with them? Or do you just go about sharing your business card? No. Networking occurs from the small conversations that you have when you meet in a gathering, or when you go for networking or corporate events. As a matter of fact, any situation where two or more people are gathered, and they can interact, have discussions and mingle – networking can take place.

So how do you turn those little conversations into networking? Here’s how:

Ask questions. You don’t need to keep talking about mundane things that wouldn’t be of benefit to you. Instead, ask questions that affect your business and from there, you can get answers that will be helpful to you. You can also ask other people what they do to get more sales, ways of getting new clients, or apps they use to enhance their businesses. In the course of discussion, you’ll discover you have things in common.

Exchange Contacts. When you discuss with certain people and discover that they can be of help to your business, or they will make good partners and so on, then exchange contacts. Get their cards and give them yours. If you don’t have a business card, then give them your number. The idea is not to break the connection.

Follow up. After a few days, do a follow up, you can make calls to them, remind them of how you met and how it was such a pleasure meeting them. With frequent calls and check-ups, you can move from just acquaintances to business partners.

Use social media. In this modern day, almost everything still boils down to social media. If you want to network easily, then check them out through social media, check out their business website, their blog and social on, and then see if their business is something you will want to connect with.
